Democratic candidate Susanna Gibson, who is in the midst of a campaign to become the Virginia House of Representatives, has been in the spotlight since screenshots of her Chaturbate account, an adult content platform, were shared with numerous American media outlets.
The 40-year-old nurse is said to have filmed a dozen live videos with her husband in which she performed certain sexual acts in exchange for tips. According to the Washington Post, the live streams were cracked and stored on the Recurbate website in September 2022. Susanna Gibson announced her candidacy in July 2022.
The mom, who had more than 5,770 subscribers on Chaturbate, even performed “private performances” in front of some of her admirers who were willing to pay her.
However, Chaturbate’s rules prohibit “requesting certain actions in exchange for money.” Violators risk being excluded from the platform.
In a statement to The Washington Post, Susanna Gibson described the publicly released videos as “an illegal invasion of my privacy with the intent to humiliate my family and myself.”
“I will not be intimidated and I will not remain silent,” she said. My political opponents and their Republican allies have proven that they are willing to commit a sexual crime to attack me because they know no bounds when it comes to silencing women.”
The candidate’s attorney, Daniel P. Watkins, argued that archiving the videos violated Virginia state law regarding pornography, which is the distribution of sexual images of a person for the purpose of “intimidating, harassing or coercing him.” .
“We are reviewing the matter with state and federal law enforcement,” he said.
