The presence of a drill circulating under the nacelle is at the root of Sunday’s accident in Mont-Tremblant, which killed one person and seriously injured another, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) announced on Monday.
In an interview on ICI RDI, SQ spokesman Éric Cadotte explained that the presence of this exercise on the south face of the mountain was still unclear as of Sunday morning.
It was difficult to understand what she was doing circulating under the gondolas, said Éric Cadotte.
Investigators from the SQ’s Main Criminal Investigation Department are still at the scene trying to clarify the causes and circumstances of the clash, he added.

Several hypotheses are considered and investigators from the SQ and CNESST are at the site of the ski resort where the deadly collision of the gondola with a drill occurred.

The Standards, Equity, Health and Safety Commission (CNESST) also has investigators on the ground. They work together with the SQ.
Two Ontario people were in the gondola at the time of the collision. They were thrown out and fell several meters at this point of the route, halfway between the base of the mountain and the summit. A 50-year-old man was killed while a woman was taken to a Montreal hospital, where she is in critical condition.
