Just a few steps away from the pioneers, Frédéric St-Laurent, owner of a sportswear store located in the building, had the impression that he was in the middle of a nightmare.
“I’ve been renting here for a year. My lease had just expired. All my things were ready to go. But then I lost everything. There will be nothing to save,” he said.

The fire broke out in the building early in the evening, around 6:55 p.m., said Granby Fire Department Operations Chief Bruce Judge. The commercial building is located between Boulevard David-Bouchard and the 9th row. Due to the security area, the area had to be avoided.
Firefighters from Granby, supported by their counterparts from Shefford, Bromont, Saint-Paul-d’Abbotsford and Roxton Pond, were still battling the blaze around 10pm on Thursday. They mainly used their cart.
At first glance, the fire was not criminal in nature, said Bruce Judge. Firefighters, who arrived quickly on the scene, managed to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings, including a storage room at the rear.
Investigators were also on site to determine the cause of the fire.
