A fire rages in an electricity terminal in Trois-Rivières –

A fierce fire destroyed an electrical terminal manufacturer’s building near Highway 40 in Trois-Rivières on Tuesday.

Already this morning around 9:00 a.m. there was almost nothing left of the founding of Elmec Inc..

The major fire broke out around 7:20 a.m. and when firefighters arrived on scene, they noticed a widespread wildfire.

Fortunatly nobody was hurt. The employees on site and those from neighboring buildings were evacuated very quickly.

Firefighters are still working to put out the flames that continue to ravage what remains of the facility.

Debris was found miles away

A public safety advisory for citizens was also issued.

Several of them reported finding debris, even several kilometers from the scene of the fire.

The instructions say not to touch them for at least 24 hours.

In addition, the head of operations for the fire department of the city of Trois-Rivières, Mathieu Ouellette, explained the fire risk of lithium batteries.

“Of course, these elements can release toxic smoke when burned. That’s why we called the Public Health and Environment Agency of Quebec, who will assist us and carry out air quality analyzes and of course give instructions to citizens,” he defined.

According to the latest information, the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec has confirmed that air quality has not been affected.
