The Toronto Maple Leafs never gave up, but ultimately lost 4-3 in overtime to the Boston Bruins at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday.
With his team trailing 2-1 at the start of the third period, former Montreal Canadiens Max Domi scored for the Leafs for the first time. This goal gave his team a 2-2 draw.
Trent Frederic thought he had given the Bruins the win with 6:50 to play, but Auston Matthews sent the two rivals into overtime with six seconds left. This goal was also his second goal of the game.
Brad Marchand has finally closed his club’s balance sheet. While David Pastrnak had passed a backhand fake to goaltender Joseph Woll, the puck was in front of the Boston captain, who simply had to send the puck into a gaping cage.
Pastrnak and Kevin Shattenkirk were the Massachusetts team’s other scorers.
With this setback, the Leafs still only have five wins in 60 minutes, which doesn’t stop them from being the first team drafted in the Eastern Association. As for the Bruins, they are still first in the Atlantic Section thanks to a record of 16-4-3.
A defeat for the Kraken before the encounter with CH
The Ottawa Senators needed just one small goal to earn a 2-0 win over the Seattle Kraken.
The winning goal for his team was scored by Quebecer Mathieu Joseph, who took advantage of a mistake by Matty Beniers to beat Joey Daccord after an excellent feint.
Drake Batherson scored his team’s second goal with 6:23 left in the second period. Tim Stützle and Vladimir Tarasenko provided assists.
Anton Forsberg was uncompromising in front of his team’s goal and achieved his first shutout of the season thanks to 39 saves. This victory allowed the Ottawa club to stop a streak of three consecutive defeats.
The Kraken will face the Montreal Canadiens on Monday at the Bell Centre.
Pennsylvania’s battle with the Flyers
At the end of a close game, the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in a shootout in the Battle of Pennsylvania.
Sean Couturier gave his team the penalty shootout victory by firing the puck into Tristan Jarry’s goal.
The game started well for the Penguins, who had the lead twice thanks to Kris Letang and Jake Guentzel. However, the third period was more complicated, while the special teams play was costly for Mike Sullivan’s men, who conceded a goal both out of superiority and outnumbered, with Scott Laughton and Tyson Foerster pulling the strings in the circumstances.
Guentzel allowed his team to play more hockey by scoring a goal with 21 seconds left in the game.
