In the coming days there will be exceptional heat in Quebec, threatening the monthly records for the month of October.

The presence of an atmospheric ridge promotes the rise of heat from the southern United States. A mercury temperature of around 27°C or even higher is therefore on the radar for many regions in central and southern Quebec. Such heat is extraordinary, especially considering that the average mercury temperature in early October in southern Quebec is around 16°C. This is therefore an anomaly of 10°C for certain sectors, which is emerging at the beginning of October.

RECORDS 2

The heat will peak between Wednesday and Thursday and will be particularly pronounced in southwestern Quebec.

Although moisture may be present, its presence may not be unpleasant. Temperatures around 30°C are still possible, especially in the larger area. The sun is also shining, which can increase the feeling of heat.

Some monthly records could even be broken. Gatineau is one of them: the mark of 27.8 °C recorded in 1946 was exceeded over the course of the week. The same applies to Val-d’Or, where temperatures above 26.5 °C (the current record set in 2011) are possible. If these temperatures are reached, it will mean that it will never have been so hot in these regions in October.

RECORDS 1

Eastern Quebec will benefit from some heat, but its intensity is expected to be much less than other sectors.
