After signing a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings the day before, forward Patrick Kane skated with his new teammates at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday morning during practice before the evening game against the Rangers in New York.
The 35-year-old veteran, whose salary will account for $2.75 million on the club’s payroll according to the Daily Faceoff website, strapped on his skates to get a more concrete idea of his training strategies and get even more rest fit.

At a news conference on Wednesday, Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman said that Kane was in Detroit on Tuesday to undergo a medical exam as part of the contract signing process. Everything would have gone well for him, who is still recovering from hip surgery this summer.
Better sooner than later
Regarding his return to football, the main prospect indicated that he wanted to play his first game under his new colors in seven to ten days, according to journalist Dan Rosen.
If that schedule is followed, fans of the Michigan team could see the star in action at home, at Little Caesars Arena, when the San Jose Sharks (December 7) or the Ottawa Senators (December 9) visit.
Yzerman, meanwhile, did not want to reveal the exact time of his winger’s debut, although he stated that it would be sooner rather than later. The Red Wings legend also has high expectations for Kane and believes his addition to the lineup could make a big difference.
“A lot can happen during the season, but if we are healthy and our goalkeepers are resilient, we can increase the pressure to clinch a playoff spot,” he told reporters.
The American collected 57 points in 73 games with the Chicago Blackhawks and Rangers during the 2022-2023 season.
