David Martinez, 40, of Miami, was sharpening a large kitchen knife at his home Thursday morning when he claimed he told his brother he was going to kill him.
The victim, who managed to escape from the residence, told police that his brother had “behaved strangely” since the night before.
Martinez was detained at the home after he got angry and fought with the police in Miami-Dade.
He faces three charges of assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and false imprisonment, as well as two counts of a crime of resisting a police officer. He is currently in jail instead of a $ 22,000 bail.

Police responded to Martinez’s Miami residence around 6 a.m. on Feb. 24 for reports of a violent dispute.
The suspect’s brother told police he tried to leave the house after Martinez threatened him, but was tracked down, caught and ordered to enter.
Frightened, the victim obeyed Martinez’s orders and returned to the residence.
He eventually managed to leave the house and had a friend call 911.
When police arrived at the scene, Martinez did not cooperate with police.
He was eventually taken to the group and handcuffed before being taken to the county jail. Police also seized the weapon.
According to a police report, Martinez was sharpening a large kitchen knife at his home on Thursday morning when he claimed to have told his brother he would kill him.
