A foreign tourist died after being bitten by a shark

A 66-year-old foreign tourist died this Thursday from an animal bite while bathing in Playa Quieta, in the hotel zone of Ixtapa, north of the Guerrero municipality of Zihuatanejo. According to local media Enfoque Informativo de Guerrero, it was a shark that bit the man in one of his limbs and died on the shore a few minutes later after bleeding to death. Municipal Civil Protection sources tell EL PAÍS that parts of the Navy are looking for a shark, although they do not rule out that the person responsible could be a crocodile, since this species of reptile is common in the area. A woman was also attacked in the water and taken to a nearby hospital.

Ixtapa's Quieta Beach has been closed by authorities while naval elements search for the animal. Zihuatanejo civil protection sources said medical services were trying to save the man's life on the shore where he bled to death. They also pointed out that such attacks do not normally occur in Playa Quieta. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital because of the animal's bite, but the severity of her injuries is unknown.
