A French football legend as the successor to Maxime Crepeau

A French football legend as the successor to Maxime Crépeau?

France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who led his country to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, is reportedly in talks with Los Angeles FC.

The BBC reported on Thursday that the 37-year-old will leave Tottenham on a free transfer when his contract ends on July 1. Lloris has moved up to third in the north London club's goalkeeping hierarchy and has not played since April.

The former France international joined Spurs in 2012 and played 447 games. He had some great moments with this team, notably helping them reach the 2019 Champions League final.

Lloris became particularly famous internationally with the “Blues”. In January he became France's most capped player with 145 games. He was captain of the team when it won the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

And crepeau?

If this transfer goes through, there would be reason to wonder what the future holds for Quebec native Maxime Crépeau, who has led Los Angeles FC to the Major League Soccer finals the last two years.

The former CF Montreal player was seriously injured in the 2022 final and only played in seven games last season. He did very well, allowing only two goals and also posting two shutouts.

However, his contract expires on Sunday. He doesn't yet know where he will play in the 2024 season, but he could be in demand in MLS or elsewhere.

In 2021, LAFC acquired him from the Vancouver Whitecaps for a general allocation amount of $1 million, making him the most expensive goaltender in the Garber scene to change addresses.
