A frustrating loss for the rocket

The Laval Rocket had their game well under control against the Belleville Senators, but a burst of pride from the visitors allowed them to bail out with a 2-1 overtime win at the Place Bell on Wednesday night.

Tempers ran high in the third period when Jean-François Houle’s side were 1-0 up. Senators captain Dillon Heatherington lunged at defenseman William Trudeau and a scrum ensued. It gave the visitors renewed energy, who leveled the game moments later through Jake Lucchini.

After two minutes of overtime, Scott Sabourin beat Cayden Primeau. This is the sixth win in eight games this season for the Ottawa Senators School Club against the Montreal Canadiens.

Joël Teasdale had a pretty busy start to the game. After receiving a double minor penalty for carrying a stick too high, the Quebecer hit on the power play 10 minutes later. Peter Abbandonato served him a fine backhand pass and the left wing shot was unmistakable.

However, Teasdale’s time on the ice came to an abrupt end in the second half when he was dealt a puck in the face. He was third again, he who ended up being cut in the forehead after the disc destroyed his visor. It could have been a tough loss for Rocket as the 23-year-old has scored four goals in his last four games.

Local favorites’ top scorer Anthony Richard nearly scored his 21st goal of the year midway through the third period. With his skate, however, he pushed the puck into the net.

Before the Belleville cage, Blainvilloi’s Kevin Mandolese outperformed himself with 33 saves on 34 shots. On the other side of the rink, Primeau had 30 shots to go.

The Rocket will now travel to Cleveland to face off against the Monsters twice on Friday and Saturday.
