A good show, but a loss for the Alouettes

The Alouettes knew this part of the schedule would be difficult… Despite a commendable performance, the Montreal team suffered a second straight loss before even a home-and-away series against the Toronto Argonauts.

However, unlike Winnipeg, the Alouettes put up a solid opponent against the British Columbia Lions last week, despite losing 34-25 at Percival-Molson Stadium.

A successful interception by Quincy Mauger at the expense of quarterback Cody Fajardo significantly hurt the Alouettes’ chances in the fourth quarter. In doing so, the Lions clipped the wings of the “Sparrows,” who had just made a successful fake play on a fake clearance a few moments earlier. Then Jeshrun Antwi picked up the ball before going to the kicker and ran 43 yards.

In this exciting encounter, William Stanback also enlivened the crowd at the start of the fourth quarter by carrying the ball 69 yards into the end zone. It was his longest rush for a touchdown since his Canadian Football League debut. Pass receiver Austin Mack also shone with a spectacular touchdown. It wasn’t enough to tame the Lions.
