A French chef from Saint-Ferdinand in the Center-du-Québec region learned on Monday that the Federal Minister for Immigration, Marc Miller, had agreed to a waiver of the deportation order when he had to take the plane to return to France in the evening.
Lorenzo Favilli is breathing a little better since hearing the news.
He believes his victory would have been unlikely without the support of the community.
The citizens also came by in large numbers on Monday morning to congratulate him. Several had signed a petition against his deportation.
Messages have been posted all over Saint-Ferdinand in recent weeks calling for his sacking to be waived.
Lorenzo Favilli came to Quebec six years ago. He claims his application for a work permit renewal was misplaced due to the pandemic.
Without official status, it was impossible for him to work despite the many job offers.
His employer, resto-bar Le William owner Martin Boulet, supported his request.
This two-year reprieve, granted by Immigration Minister Marc Miller, should allow Lorenzo Favilli to submit a new application for permanent residence in order to settle permanently in Saint-Ferdinand.
