The Ottawa Senators extended defenseman Jake Sanderson’s contract by eight years on Wednesday.
The fifth overall pick in the 2020 draft will receive an annual salary of $8.05 million starting in the 2024-25 season. The total value of his new pact is $64.4 million. This year he will complete his rookie contract.
Last year, in his only season in the National Hockey League (NHL), Sanderson scored four goals and had 28 assists for 32 points in 77 games.
The Sens said a no-move clause was negotiated for the final three years of the agreement, allowing him to choose 10 teams he doesn’t want to play with.
“Jake’s transition to professional hockey has been smooth,” Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said in a statement. He is a very mature young man who has proven he can play important minutes.
“He has the talent to be one of the best defensemen in the NHL for many years to come,” the GM added. We are very pleased to have another young member of our tribe under a long-term contract.”
