A humanitarian convoy has arrived in Nagorno Karabakh via Azerbaijan

On Tuesday, Nagorno-Karabakh authorities approved the entry of a humanitarian convoy from the territory of Azerbaijan. Nagorno-Karabakh is a breakaway region of Azerbaijan inhabited primarily by ethnic Armenians. Since Azerbaijan blocked access in July to the only road connecting it to Armenia, the Lachin Corridor, which is vital to its supply, the area has experienced a severe shortage of food and basic necessities. The convoy entering the region on Tuesday comes from Russia and carries bed sheets, soap and food rations: it did not pass through the Lachin corridor, but an internal road in Azerbaijan.

Last Saturday, the Azerbaijani government announced an agreement with the Armenian government to reopen the Lachin corridor, but it does not appear that traffic has resumed at that time and it is not clear when the French and Armenian aid convoys will arrive at the border can stop to enter Nagorno-Karabakh.
