UNITED STATES – An ordinary hearing turns into an outbreak of violence. This Wednesday, January 3, in Las Vegas, the defendant suddenly jumped on her as a judge prepared to announce her decision. The man in question, Deobra Redden, who had already been convicted of domestic violence and burglary, according to local television station KSNV, was on trial for attempted bodily harm.

As you can see in our video above, A few moments earlier, Deobra Redden's lawyer had requested a suspended sentence. The defendant himself had asked the judge for leniency, citing mental health issues that he was currently sorting out. “I understand, but I think it’s time for him to try something different,” replied Judge Mary Kay Holthus, citing the defendant’s extensive criminal record.

When the defendant realizes that the judge plans to send him to prison, he lunges at her, insults her and evades a security guard and court staff who attempt to intervene. A chaotic and violent melee ensued in which he threw several punches before being overpowered by several people.

“Judge Holthus had some injuries and her condition is being monitored medically,” a spokeswoman for the Clark County court in Nevada told AFP. An injured agent was “transported to the hospital” and his condition is now “stable,” she said. After this incident, “we are reviewing all of our protocols and will do everything necessary to protect the judiciary, the public and our employees,” she concluded.
