Sargassum algae approaching. The entire Caribbean seems to be affected by this invasion of seaweed rafts drifting our way from the African shores. Ground predictions are not good.
The view is impressive! A Sargassum mass of 8000 km is approaching.
It is said to weigh more than 6 million tons. This wave was observed by satellites. As part of the African coast, it is currently moving towards Florida and the Gulf of Mexico according to international forecasts.
According to American scientists, this belt of sargassum algae could reach unprecedented proportions.
It is forecast to reach the southern United States in July, but before then these algae will have crossed the Caribbean zone. And number 1 of the hardest hit islands: Guadeloupe, the North Islands, Martinique.

When asked by the American daily newspaper, biologist Brian Lapointe, an algae specialist at Florida Atlantic University, even specified this
“this [polluants] are the common point of distribution of all these algae, whether sargassum, red tides [provoquées par l’algue Karenia brevis] or blue-green algae”

In the coming weeks we will therefore once again have to deal with regular contact with algae throughout the West Indies.
