The Leafs will have to do without Matt Murray

A long absence for Matt Murray

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray will be sidelined for six to eight months.

On Monday, the Queen City Club announced that the masked man had undergone successful hip replacement surgery. His name was placed on the Leafs’ long-term injured list last July.

The contract that the 29-year-old Ontario native signed with the Ottawa Senators in October 2020 runs for one more season. The “Sens” transferred him to the Maple Leafs in July 2022.

Last year, in his first season in Toronto, Murray had a 14-8-2 record, a 3.01 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.

It’s over for Muzzin

The Maple Leafs also announced that defenseman Jake Muzzin will make the transition from player to scout.

The 34-year-old only played four games last year due to injury. This summer, the Toronto club announced that the 14-year veteran would not play any games in 2023-2024.

Muzzin began his NHL career with the Los Angeles Kings. The Leafs acquired him in January 2019. The guard collected 294 points, including 69 goals, in 683 games on the Bettman circuit.
