A magical end to Glaude’s career

EVANSVILLE, Indiana | David Glaude’s career couldn’t end any better than with his second championship in as many years with the Capitals.

“A little scoop: It was the last game I played at the pro level and it was just magical,” Glaude said last night during the Capitals festivities in Evansville. It couldn’t have ended better. »

“I’m so happy for those whose careers are about to end, so happy for Glaude and TJ [White] I hope they finish with an excellent game, commented coach Patrick Scalabrini. It’s crazy ! »

If Glaude confirmed his withdrawal, White would rather wait a little longer before making it official.

Scalabrini brought a little magic to the Capitals by shaking up his offensive lineup for this fifth and final game of the Frontier League Finals. He knew full well that it was the last game for Glaude, who moved from fifth to second in the batting order. His charge responded with a solo home run in the second inning and finished the game with three RBIs.

“Regardless of my position in the offensive lineup, I just wanted to help my team win their second championship in a row and I’m really happy,” Glaude also said.

At the age of 28, it was time for the young man from Quebec to establish himself more permanently on the job market as a land surveyor and, above all, to stay with his small family more often, including his now 13-month-old son Justin.

“It hurts to be abroad,” he said earlier this week, immediately referring to little Justin with stars in his eyes. We had been practicing all week for her first steps, but I missed her… My friend called me on FaceTime while we were in Albany. At least I hit a home run that night. »

Two extraordinary years

Glaude has had a fantastic journey, especially in the last two years, which of course also includes events in his private life.

“In 2022 there was the championship [des Capitales], the birth of my son Justin and my university graduation, listed the Quebec athlete before the presentation of the fifth and final final. In 2023 there was the success of my trials for the Order, my selection with the Canadian team, Justin taking his first steps and this final with the Capitals that offers the chance to win a second consecutive championship. Let’s just say it’s another great year. »

As for his presence in Canada’s colors, it was a first for him in June at the Pan American Games qualifying tournament in Argentina. He had never been drafted before, at either the junior or senior level.

“It was a source of pride for me to wear the Canada jersey for the first time,” he admitted, before quickly bringing everything back to the memories I had there as a family. I had the opportunity to enjoy this experience in Argentina with my family. There was my girlfriend, my little boy and my parents. »
