A man in his 50s was arrested Wednesday morning after firing an air pistol toward a daycare center in the small Montérégie community of Saint-Rémi.
“It’s definitely stressful. “There is so much going on,” says a neighbor who prefers to remain anonymous.
At around 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, police officers from the Sûreté du Québec responded to Perras Street.
According to our information, the suspect climbed onto the back balcony of a residential building to point a shotgun at the courtyard of the La Petite Maternelle daycare center on Rue Chèvrefils.
He was arrested and could be charged with mischief, said Camille Savoie, spokeswoman for the SQ.
More fear than harm
No one was injured, but the story circulated on social media and caused concern among parents in the community of about 10,000 residents.
“Parents called me in a panic, they had seen it on social networks,” says Nathalie Augagneur, owner of the Académie des Elfes, 200 meters from the stage.
“It definitely stressed me out. I closed the curtains and let the kids take a nap. We were not afraid of its arrival, but it could have been a stray bullet,” continues the woman who has lived in Saint-Rémi for thirty years.
According to residents, there were traffic delays on Rue Perras for part of the day.
