A man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in the town of Lauderhill, Florida.
The suspect, Jermaine Henderson, 39, faces multiple charges including two counts of sexual assault.
Henderson was arrested in Hollywood on Tuesday, but authorities say the incident happened on April 11.
A Local 10 report said that “just after 7:36pm that day, Lauderhill Police officers were notified of an underage woman at Plantation Hospital who was reporting a sexual assault.”
Police said the victim was “dropped off by a school bus at the intersection of Northwest 38th Avenue and Northwest Sixth Street shortly after 4 p.m. that day.”
On the way home, the girl noticed “a white van parked in a driveway and a black man standing near the van,” authorities said.
Surveillance video shows Henderson in a driveway where a vehicle was parked and the victim walking down the sidewalk.
Police said the defendant “heaped compliments on the victim and persuaded her to come to his vehicle” and threatened her with an object the girl identified as a box cutter. He then took her near the truck where he sexually abused her.
The girl’s mother took her to the hospital and lodged a complaint with the police.
The suspect’s calm demeanor, the way he took advantage of the girl and the ease with which he was able to convince her to go straight home after the attack tell police that “this may not be the first time.” is that Henderson committed an act like that,” Local 10 said.
Henderson was brought before a bail court this Wednesday, but the judge ruled the defendant would remain in custody without bail.
In 2021, the person was charged with possession and sale of narcotics, evidence tampering, assault, robbery and escape, among other charges.
