KATHMANDU Doctors at the Nepal Medical College and Teaching Hospital performed an unusual operation after a man asked for help to remove a 12cm glass from his anus. During the consultation, the 47yearold Nepalese man admitted he was drunk when he inserted the glass object into his rectum in a “recreational moment.”

According to the scientific journal Journal of Nepal Medical Association, the man tried for three days to remove the glass jar himself without success. Concerned, he sought medical help. He had no pain, abdominal swelling, anal injuries, or bleeding. However, he has not had a bowel movement for two days.

The Xrays, which went viral on social media, showed the cup was in an inverted position. After manual removal failed, doctors opted for surgery with an incision in the intestine to avoid the risk of breaking the glass cup.

Five days after the operation, the man began voiding again and was discharged the next day. After the impact of the cases, doctors interviewed by the Journal of Nepal Medical Association said rectal insertions were not uncommon in men in their 30s to 40s, citing soda and beer bottles, deodorant containers, wooden or rubber objects and bones and Batteries to the items that have already been removed from the site.
