A 35-year-old motorist traveling in the opposite direction collided head-on with a vehicle carrying a family on the M50 in Madrid this morning, leaving one dead and three seriously injured, according to the regional emergency agency 112. The deceased is another motorist, a 42-year-old man, the injured are his 39-year-old wife, 4-year-old son and the man who was going against the current. The Guardia Civil, which is investigating the accident, has not yet clarified whether the cause of the collision was a kamikaze or whether it was a mistake.
The accident happened at kilometer 62 of this ring road, near Alcorcón. 112 spokesman Luis Serrano said his service received multiple calls around 3 a.m. warning him of the oncoming vehicle. The last of them reported that a collision had occurred.
Firefighters and civil protection personnel from Alcorcón City Council, members of the Civil Guard and Summa 112 went to the scene of the accident. They tried unsuccessfully to revive the deceased and transferred his relatives to the Doce de Octubre hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was trapped and rescued by firefighters before being taken by ambulance to Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Majadahonda.
