“Music inspires us, but the woman herself is the main inspiration,” he explains on the show Le Bilan.

It is thanks to his uncle that this meeting took place.

The uncle of the bass player Grégory Charles had the opportunity to accompany the singer on stage several times.

During one of these tours, Grégory Charles, about ten years old, met Mrs. Turner.

“The first thing I remember is not a tall woman, she must be 1.70 meters tall,” he says, smiling, trying to remember the elements that shaped him the most.

However, it is more his love for music that he still remembers decades later.

“She asked me what I was singing and I started singing and without hearing she sang with me. What I remember from these people, who are giants of music, is that this passion for this art is not just superficial, it is something visceral,” notes the Quebec artist.

Her simplicity had shaped him, despite her great success she seemed to behave the same way towards a ten-year-old girl as towards any other music star.

The Quebec musician also says she had to overcome several difficult trials that black women of her time faced.

“As an adult, I understand why her story is so important, why she is a pioneer,” said Mr. Charles.
