The musical theater play “Mameyes 3:30, a story that will not be forgotten”, set in the tragedy that shook an entire country, will be performed on September 2nd and 3rd in the René Marqués Hall of the Santurce Fine Arts Center . on duty at 8:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
This theatrical production, written by Padre Orlando Lugo Pérez, author of the successful “Charlie, The Musical”, evokes the events of the early morning of October 7, 1985 in Mameyes, the mountain in the La Cantera Ponce sector, where a tropical wave caused torrential downpours undermined its foundations until it collapsed just before 3:30 a.m., killing about 130 people and killing 300 others, many of whom were never rescued from the site of one of the worst landslides in Puerto Rico’s history .
Although the action begins 48 hours before the Mameyes tragedy, the writer and executive producer states that she wants to remember a story that should never be forgotten. He judged: “A people who forget their history runs the risk of making the same mistakes.”
Unlike what happened, the musical work is not a tragedy; It is based on real events intended to narrate many other subplots that could have happened in any quarter of the world. “Mameyes was its people, its culture, intrigue, love, gossip and jokes, hopes and struggles, like every neighborhood in the world. Mameyes deserves to be remembered with joy and his dead must be honored with respect,” Father Orlando said in written statements.
Alejandro Primero is Artistic Director of Mameyes 3:30…A Story That Will Not Be Forgotten, and Production is by Isamel Hernández and Joel Rivera (of Grupo Meyta).

“It is important that the new generations know the history of the work of these humble people who want to get better and move forward. Adults also have a responsibility to ensure that Mameyes is not just a reminder, but a motivation so that his story is not repeated anywhere else. “The musical will be a tribute to Ponce and Puerto Rico, but also to all the brothers who lost their lives and to the survivors,” added the artistic director, who composed the lyrics and music in the same way that are presented to the public the opportunity to enjoy.
