New performers, revised and updated arrangements… the titles of the musical Don Juan get a new look for the show's 20th anniversary.

“I feel like I'm traveling back in time and reliving the same excitement as 20 years ago. “I am in seventh heaven, especially at the idea of bringing the show back to life on the stage in Montreal where it was created,” says Félix Gray, creator of the musical.

New voices

Quebecers will therefore have several months to listen to the new distribution; Gian Marco Schiaretti and Cindy Daniel today take over from Jean-François Breau and Marie-Eve Janvier to lend their voices to the characters of Don Juan and Maria. She embodied the latter when the show was created, then in 2012 and at symphony concerts in 2019.

So they are the ones who imprinted “Changer” or “Only Love” in our collective memory for two decades. Is the public here ready to hear new voices on these titles?

“Why not?” Let go of Felix Gray.

“Plays have been performed with different artists for centuries; Molière's actors are no longer the same today as they were back then. On the contrary, I believe audiences will rediscover these songs – and even the show – in a whole new light and with new talent,” he continues.

A new title

The Don Juan album will also allow fans to discover a brand new song: the piece Ensemble, written specifically for the show's current cast. Unless it is integral to the plot, it is served as an encore at the end of each performance.

“Throughout the show, the artists present songs that have already existed and have been sung by other singers in the past. That's why I wanted them to have their own unreleased track that they played first. It’s a gift that I really wanted to give them,” explains Félix Gray.

  • The Don Juan album hits stores on Wednesday. The digital edition is already available on the platforms.
