A New Brunswick journalist was allegedly the victim of a murder

New Brunswick law enforcement has reason to believe a journalist found dead outside his home was the victim of a homicide.

The New Brunswick Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Serious Crimes Unit is investigating the death of Réjean Hébert in Saint-Simon, a small town in the north of the province. The 60-year-old was found lifeless in front of his house on Thursday in the middle of the night. Officials had received a wellness request to make sure the person was okay.

In the case, the authorities were able to arrest a 29-year-old man. The RCMP spares itself additional comment as it continues its investigation to shed light on the matter.

The death of journalist Réjean Hébert shocked everyone across Acadie when he was hugely involved. The man was the news director at CKRO, a community radio station on the Acadian Peninsula, for the last several years. He was allowed to accompany the audience every day to update them on news and to support several young journalists in launching their careers. He has also done some reports for the TVA station in Caraquet.

In addition to his passion for horticulture, Réjean Hébert is also involved in the Association des radios communautaire acadiennes du Nouveau-Brunswick.

“It is a heavy loss for the journalistic field and for our entire community,” said MNA for Caraquet, Isabelle Thériault.
