A new building for the Saint-François substation of Hydro-Sherbrooke – La Tribune

The Ville de Sherbrooke project aims to replace the current brick building, built in the late 1950s between rue Saint-François Nord and the river of the same name.

This is a project to replace the Hydro-Sherbrooke Command and Protection Station at this site.

The construction contract was awarded by the municipal council last May.

The new building is expected to be completed by December 2023.

The budget for the building is $3.1 million and contractor services are expected to cost approximately $700,000.

Phase 1 of the project has therefore recently started construction of a new building.

According to the City of Sherbrooke Communications Department, the old building, built in 1958 and resembling a small house, was no longer up to standards.

At some point it will be demolished.

Current standards

“The new building is expected to be handed over in December 2023,” it said in an email.

“It will comply with current standards and will allow modernizing the control and protection, and then implementing certain automatic systems. »

La Tribune was able to convince itself on site that the future building will be significantly larger than the building to be replaced.
