A new team for Nathan Beaulieu

Former Montreal Canadiens first-round champion Nathan Beaulieu won his bet with the Anaheim Ducks, who offered him a one-year contract after a pro tryout on Saturday.

That one-pack deal nets the 29-year-old defenseman $850,000. He stood out for the Ducks by scoring in two preseason games.

The Ontarian has spent the last four seasons with the Winnipeg Jets but his career has been hampered by several physical issues. In 2021 his campaign was interrupted by a broken hand and last year he sat out after March with a lower body injury.

The Habs selected Beaulieu in the 17th round of the 2011 draft. He spent five seasons with the organization before being traded to the Buffalo Sabers in 2017.

DeHan back

In Carolina, defenseman Calvin de Haan formalized his return to the Hurricanes with a one-year contract and $850,000. The 31-year-old veteran, who played for the team from 2018-2019, also turned his trial into a deal.

“We obviously knew Calvin from his early days in Carolina,” general manager Don Waddell said in a statement. We liked what we saw of him at camp and saw an opportunity to add more depth to our blue line.”

De Haan, a former New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks player, has 520 National League games and 119 points.
