A newlywed couple’s special night took an unexpected turn when they were mugged at a castle in Rio de Janeiro after their wedding reception.
Jheinifer Borges and her husband Caio Raposo were returning to their home in Rio de Janeiro when they were intercepted by four gunmen in a car on a highway in the city of Magé around 3 a.m. local time on Sunday.

The carjackers then fled in Borges’ Fiat pickup, which she bought as a birthday present for herself in September.
“We didn’t have a wedding night and we don’t know if we’re going to have a honeymoon,” Borges said.
“The spell is gone,” she continued. “We didn’t expect debt after a wedding that we had planned for so long.”

The carjackers stole at least $4,000 worth of property, including cell phones, souvenirs and clothing they had rented for the wedding.
Also missing is the wedding guest book, which Borges gets back screaming.
The couple spent almost three hours at a local police station to file a complaint.
Borges said she wasn’t sure if they would be able to celebrate their honeymoon in the mountain town of Gramado.
“Everyone’s life was saved. We have to give thanks for the good part,” she said. “Despite everything that happened, everyone is here and nobody went to a wake.”
