A player collapses on the bench…then returns to the game

Hartford’s Wolf Pack and supporters held their breath Thursday night when forward Anton Blidh collapsed on his team’s bench mid-game.

The game was called off at Hershey with 2:39 to go in the first period of this third round game against the Bears. After a tackle in the defending zone, the Swede is pulled back onto his bench with his body leaning forward.

Just then, Blidh fell and players on both sides quickly yelled for help. The 28-year-old was taken to the dressing room by team-mates while a stretcher was brought nearby.

The Wolf Pack confirmed on social media that Blidh was being treated for a non-life threatening injury. He returned to the game towards the end of the first period, the final minutes of which were played just before the start of the second period. According to TheAHL.com’s Tony Androckitis, the forward was out of breath.

Blidh, who played 84 games in the National Hockey League, joined the New York Rangers academy midway through the season.
