A Pokemon card that could earn him a lot – TVA Gatineau-Ottawa

A rare Pokémon card could win big for a Gatineau collector. As a result, it caught the attention of the Goldin company, which was the subject of the Collector series on Netflix, which plans to put it up for auction. Due to its good condition and rarity, the card is likely to be sought after by many collectors with a checkbook.

Marc Gauthier, who has been collecting Pokémon cards since the late ’90s, recently purchased the Grayscale Poké Ball second hand. Its owner reports that it is considered the largest error card ever printed.

There are only 19 cards of this type, but it is the only one rated 8.5 by the grading company CGC. The card even caught the attention of Goldin Auctions from the popular Netflix series King of Collectibles: The Goldin Touch. The Gatineau resident says he has signed a contract with the American company to put his card up for auction in December.

However, one expert believes that through his collaboration with Goldin he can reach collectors interested in these types of error cards.

We are talking about a niche market within a niche market. So we are actually in the 1% of serious collectors who want to buy this piece.

-Dave Doyon, owner of Imaginaire boutiques

Another Gatineau specialty store owner, who has never seen such a card, expects there will be several bidding wars.

It is guaranteed that the world will bid on it. It will fight to get it.

-Éric Maltais, managing director and owner of the FDB boutique

One of the experts we met believes the card could sell for more than $10,000. Another estimates it could sell for $200,000 to $1 million.

The most expensive Pokémon card sold to date, the only Pikachu Illustrator rated 10, was purchased for more than $5 million. Marc Gauthier, on the other hand, doesn’t want to get too carried away with his card and says he would be happy if it cost $1,000 or $2,000.

It’s not the amount of money per se. […] Once you have it, you want to move on to the next (card) that you would like to have but don’t have.
