The driver behind the wheel of his BMW then refused to stop while the police officer attempted to intercept him, engaging the police officers and his passengers in a police chase that multiplied the number of crimes, with a persistent and experienced police officer hot on his trail . When the fugitive quickly became stuck in the parking lot behind a motel in Boul, St-Jospeh, he was unable to continue his escape in his vehicle. The latter abandoned his vehicle and passengers and this time tried to escape on foot. Once again he was hot on his heels by the same duo of quick and efficient police officers when he was caught and promptly arrested.
In addition to the police pursuit, the driver was arrested for impaired driving. The young suspect and driver were driving with a suspended license and a vehicle with a driving ban, confirms the Sûreté du Québec.
After the encounter with the police, the young woman was released from the police station and placed in the care of her parents; the other passenger was also released and was summoned to appear in court.
The young suspect and guilty driver, in his early twenties, remained detained during his interrogation. He faces numerous charges, including dangerous driving, driving while impaired, fleeing and several breaches of road safety regulations.
Impaired driving remains a scourge in Drummondville while this type of crime continues to rise, despite prevention and education campaigns about the risks associated with driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Drugs that appear to have little effect compared to the effects of alcohol on drivers.
