A postman in France who distributed mail in the countryside instead of delivering it to recipients has been evicted by his employer and faces up to three years in prison.
The Meurthe-et-Moselle post office worker was fired from his post because he lost hundreds of letters and had quick distribution methods, according to France Bleu.
Residents of three communities paid the price for this rude mailman when the mail they were expecting never made it to its destination, to the point of alarming elected community officials.
Letters were found near a garbage can and in a ditch from local residents who were stunned to see their mail lying around in the countryside.
La Poste promptly fired the temporary postman and filed a complaint against him before announcing that the recovered mail would be redistributed and accompanied by letters of apology.
The accused, who must therefore explain himself in court, faces up to three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros, French media added.
