The 30 samples selected in the 2023 Cup of Excellence took part in the auction, where the average price per pound was $11.67, with the best valued being the one from the producer of the Pacamara variety Chalatenango grown on the farm in La Palma.
A report by Diario El Salvador pointed out that Mileydi Farm is again the winner of this year’s Cup of Excellence competition with a sample score of 91.82.
Salvadoran Coffee Council (CSC) Director Carolina Padilla said the auction and Cup of Excellence are part of a strategy to “promote Café El Salvador internationally and bring people together from all over the world.”
He stressed that the bid was attended by 80 buyers from countries as diverse as the United States, Italy, Japan, China and Korea, where Salvadoran coffee has found its way because of its quality.
A CSC report shows that the grain’s export earnings between October and April 2023 totaled $68.86 million, compared with $72.49 million in the same period of the 2021-2022 cycle, after a decline in volumes sold but at better prices.
