A protester wearing a dress in the colors of the Ukrainian flag staged a dramatic demonstration on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival tonight, dousing herself in fake blood before being taken away by security.

In an apparent show of her support for the war-torn country, the unidentified young woman doused herself in a red substance at the premiere of Just Philippot’s film Acid.

The woman appeared alongside celebs on the red carpet in a floor-length blue and yellow ball gown.

She then appeared to reach into her dress before pulling out a pod of fake blood, lifting it over her head and popping it while smiling for the cameras.

The demonstration came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today compared the violent destruction of parts of his country by Russian invaders to the devastation in Hiroshima.

Horrifying images from Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine today revealed the extent of the destruction Vladimir Putin’s forces have wreaked on the country.

During the 15 months of fighting, protesters around the world have regularly drawn attention to the bloodshed faced by the Ukrainian people.

At today’s protest in Cannes, security forces at the star-studded festival dragged a protester completely covered in fake blood from the carpet.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the shocking demonstration was in condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine or why it took place at the premiere of the French director’s film Acide.

A similar protest was staged by a Ukrainian at last year’s film festival, when a woman walked the red carpet to send a scathing message about the actions of Vladimir Putin’s troops.

The protester reportedly walked the red carpet fully clothed before stripping and revealing that she was wearing body paint that read, “Stop raping us.”

She also had a Ukrainian flag stuck to her back and the word “scum” written on her back.

The woman protested during the premiere of George Miller’s Three Thousand Years Of Longing on day four of the prestigious event.

Today’s protest came as the world’s eyes were on the southern French city as glamorous celebrities flocked to the red carpets for the 76th annual film festival.

This year’s festival comes amid protests and unrest across France following Emmanuel Macron’s decision to raise the state retirement age.

Cannes police announced last week that they would crack down on all forms of protests around the festival to “ensure public order”.

The festival has served as a backdrop for protests in the past, but amid ongoing nationwide unrest over pension reforms, authorities are determined to put an end to any problems before they even begin.

In an unusual move, the region’s Alpes-Maritimes prefecture has banned all demonstrations and gatherings on public streets for the duration of the festival.

The local authorities’ ban on demonstrations in the city from May 16-27 was published by the prefecture on its website last Friday.

This is necessary to “ensure public order during an exceptionally large and international event”.

It includes the Rue d’Antibes, the Palais des Festivals, the Croisette and the Promenade de Pantiero, as well as the International Village of the Marché du Film.
