A Quebecer behind Oscar nominee Brendan Fraser’s phenomenal transformation

Quebecois Adrien Morot, a noted Hollywood visual effects makeup artist, received an Oscar nomination for his work in the film The whale (The whale).

The Montreal native is in the running for the best makeup and hairstyle awards. He is one of the main architects of Brendan Fraser’s physical transformation in the film. To help the actor step into the footsteps of a morbidly obese person, Adrien Morot custom-designed 3D prosthetics for him, weighing over 300 pounds.

This is the second time Adrien Morot is in the running for the Oscars. In 2011 he received a nomination for best make-up for his work in the film Barney’s World, in which he managed to age the main character, played by Paul Giamatti.

A nomination for the NFB

The NFB also distinguished itself with a nomination in the Best Animated Short Film category for the film The Flying Sailor. Directed by Calgary-based animators Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis, the work features two ships colliding in a harbor and causing an explosion to sweep through a city.

Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis were previously nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for their previous collaborations When the Day Breaks (1999) and A Life in the Wild (2011).
