The film Solo by Sophie Dupuis won the Best Canadian Film award at the Toronto International Film Festival awards ceremony this morning.
Communications Mingotwo announced this in a press release. The Quebecer received her award on Sunday. Last week, the film had its world premiere during a presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival gala.
“Solo tells the story of Simon, a rising star in the Montreal drag queen scene. It’s love at first sight when he meets Olivier, the new recruit to the bar show he’s performing in. While Simon believes he is experiencing an electrifying love story, a toxic and destructive dynamic develops between them,” Communications Mingotwo explained.
“At the same time, Claire, Simon’s mother, a famous opera singer, returns to her work in the country after a 15-year absence,” the press release said. Fascinated by this woman, whom he hardly knows anymore but whom he idealizes, Simon persistently tries to build a bond with her. Weakened by the failure of these two impossible loves, Simon is left with no choice but to realize that he deserves better. »
Sophie Dupuis’ third feature film is currently showing in cinemas across Quebec. It will be presented elsewhere in the country from October 6th.
