A rather gray and brownish New Years Day awaits Quebecers

“A rather gray and brownish New Year’s Day” awaits Quebecers, says a meteorologist –

From one end of the province to the other, Quebecers woke up to scenery more worthy of October than December, and New Year's Day doesn't look more magical, a meteorologist warns.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has released a map of the province showing snow amounts on the ground by sector.

Several regions, from Montreal to Gaspésie, record no snow on the ground.

“In Montreal, an average of 75% of Christmases were white. Things have been going downhill since the 2000s. We are almost at 68% and having a white Christmas. This year we are heading straight into darkness,” said meteorologist Gilles Brien in an interview on LCN.

The expert pointed out that a green Christmas is no longer so rare in southern Quebec, but the lack of snow on December 31 is even rarer.

“There will still be no snow on New Year's Day. “It's going to be a more gray and brownish New Year's Day that we're going to have over the next few days,” he continues, adding that the cold air is coming for the New Year.

According to ECCC, a low pressure system originating from Colorado will bring a mix of precipitation on December 27th and 28th.

In southern Quebec, most precipitation will be liquid and temperatures will be around three degrees Celsius.

Mr. Brien recalled that the only snowfall in the south of the province occurred on December 3rd.
