Torrential rains over Quebec over the weekend

A real weather cocktail falls on all of Quebec

Quebecers will face a whole weather cocktail on Wednesday, with the passage of a low-pressure system that will bring plenty of rain, accompanied by strong winds that will sweep the entire province.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Greater Montreal and a rain and snow warning for several areas in the central and north-eastern parts of the province.

In Montreal, the rain starts at noon with forecasts of 10 to 20 millimeters of precipitation with strong southerly winds up to 80 km/h in the evening, while mild temperatures of 8 degrees are expected.

Snow mixed with rain is expected in the province’s western sectors such as Outaouais and Abitibi, where there is a risk of freezing rain in the morning, according to the federal agency.

Bad weather will also hit the central sectors of the province, where the midday weather cocktail could leave 30 to 50 millimeters of rain with gusts of 60 km/h.

“These winds could reach 80 kilometers per hour on Wednesday evening,” said the federal agency, which says rain will gradually stop in the evening while windy conditions will continue on Thursday.

For sectors a little further north, they could receive a white carpet of 10 to 20 centimeters of snow, while certain sectors in eastern Quebec will be swept by strong winds that can reach 100 km/h through Thursday morning.
