A Roman legionnaires’ brick refrigerator from around 1900 years ago, powered by a lead pipe connected to the aqueduct to deliver the cold water, in a closed and isolated environment: As reported by the website Stile e Arte, Quotidiano di Cultura , it was found by archaeologists in the heart of northern Bulgaria, precisely in the former fortress of Novae, where there was a military base of the Roman Empire.

The team of Polish archaeologists led by Prof. Piotr Dyczekmade amazing discoveries at this historical site, revealing a multitude of details about the lives of the legionnaires and legionnaires Complexity of the Roman infrastructure.
One of the most important discoveries is that of an ancient well, the first known in Novae, a large fortress of the Roman legions on the border of the empire, part of the defenses (Limes Moesiae) along the Danube in northern Bulgaria, about 4 km east of the modern city of Svishtov removed.
This well supplied water to the legionnaires through a system of aqueducts made of ceramic and lead pipes. Thanks to the differences in altitude, the retreat may have been constant.
A container made of ceramic plates was discovered around the lead pipe that carried the cold water, allowing the pipe to run along its longest side. An antique refrigerator, incredible for its time.
Fragments of wine vessels, bowls and animal bones were found inside. The Romans therefore developed an additional cooling system to keep drinks and meat fresh, thereby demonstrating a sophisticated understanding of thermal technology.
The professor. Dyczek commented: “Another example of an antique refrigerator, this time with additional cooling because it contained fragments of wine drinking vessels, bowls and animal bones. This means we can recreate the last meal.”
