A train with MPs on board traveling from Brussels to Strasbourg for a European Parliament plenary session on Monday was eventually sent to the Paris-region station that serves Disneyland after a shunting error, French railway company SNCF said.
“When magic comes to life, will Disney’s slogan soon be that of the European Parliament?” Thank you for this message, published on the Parliament.
“The train was routed to Marne-La-Vallée (less than 40 km from Paris) instead of taking the high-speed line. “He arrived at his destination (Strasbourg) at 12:50, 45 minutes late,” replied SNCF Réseau laconically in a press release sent to the press.
Every month a train takes several hundred MEPs and their colleagues from Brussels to Strasbourg for the Parliament’s plenary session.
The one who left on Monday morning missed the connection while approaching the Paris region and was therefore sent towards Marne-la-Vallée.
Here he had to turn around in order to finally reach Strasbourg as originally planned. According to SNCF Réseau, incidents of this type remain very rare.
“Will this inspire a Disney film? The plenary session and the train that wanted to go on vacation…” wrote Pelle Geertsen, an advisor to a Danish MEP, on X.
