A Shippagan child died after being attacked with a gun

A 12-year-old child from Shippagan, New Brunswick, died Friday night after a 15-year-old boy attacked him with a blunt object.

The altercation between the two youths happened on November 4 at a park in Shippagan.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers were called to the scene and discovered the child who had sustained serious facial injuries, possibly caused by a scooter.

He was taken to Children’s Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for treatment, but RCMP confirmed early Sunday morning that he died from his injuries.

Shippagan Mayor Kassim Doumbia offered his condolences to the family on social media.

“My heart is with the family,” he wrote.

He also pointed out that an intervention team was set up at the Envolée school where the victim attended.

The RCMP declined to comment further on the matter, saying an investigation into the case was ongoing.

A GoFundMe page was opened to support the family financially.
