Wind and snow caught residents of the Capitale-Nationale by surprise this morning as meteorologists predicted no precipitation.

The sun and mild weather quickly gave way to heavy snow squalls around 8 a.m. in several areas of Quebec City.
The sudden change in conditions made visibility on the roads difficult in places during rush hour.
On the north bank, the gusts are said to have finally stopped blowing around 8.40 a.m. The very short winter wave is currently moving through the Chaudière-Appalaches and Bas-Saint-Laurent regions.

According to Environment Canada experts, the meteorological phenomenon observed this morning in the Quebec region is nothing more than a heavy snow shower of very short duration.
“The necessary conditions were not met to qualify the event as a storm, squall or winter storm,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Frédérick Boulay. There was no significant drop in temperature from a cold front and winds peaked below 60 km/h.
It was above all the speed with which the phenomenon passed in the Capitale-Nationale that, in his opinion, was “surprising”.
However, the organization issued a warning about reduced visibility on the roads in most sectors of the Beauce.
