A special teacher on Long Island and a lacrosse coach has been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl off campus and harassing her while she was at school.

Timothy Harrison, 46, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of having sex with a 15-year-old girl while working at Babylon High School, according to Suffolk County Police.

The arrest came after a woman reported in November that she had sex with Harrison in the fall of 2013, when she was 15 and he was 38.

“Today’s announcement of the arrest of a Babylonian teacher for rape is alarming,” Suffolk Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison (no relative) said at a news conference.

“The rape took place outside the school, but the victim stated that there was inappropriate physical contact while at school,” he added.

An investigation into Harrison, who has been with Babylon High since 2013, was launched last year after the department was warned of possible sexual intercourse. New York Post reported.

On Thursday morning, Harrison was arrested during a traffic stop and convicted of two counts of third-degree rape and one of criminal sexual acts.

He was detained in the first district of Suffolk County on Thursday night and was due to stand trial in the First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.

Meanwhile, school principal Linda Rosie called the allegations against Harrison “embarrassing.”

“These allegations are extremely disturbing and our thoughts are with the victim,” Rosie said on Thursday.

“The district and educational councils have zero tolerance for such disgusting actions and take all allegations of this nature very seriously. We will continue to make the safety and well-being of our students and staff our top priority. ”

Commissioner Harrison praised the victim, who was not named due to her age and the nature of the crime, for her courage to come forward to speak out against Harrison.

However, Harrison’s arrest may be the tip of the iceberg, as a graduate of the school district revealed to Patch.com.

After learning of Harrison’s arrest, alumna Barbara Meyer said there were other predators in the area that police needed to investigate.

“At one point they said, ‘This is the only criminal we’ve come across,’ Mayer told the paper.

– Which is not true, because each of us has been a victim of crime.

The arrest comes months after Attorney General Leticia James launched an investigation into the area.

Since October, a number of alumni have accused school district teachers of sexual and emotional abuse, with some allegations dating back to the 1980s.
