At the moment there are no official confirmations from Moscow, but according to various Western sources defined as “accredited and reliable” by the BBC Kremlin the change order has arrived at the top mission in Ukraine. He should be the general in the next few days Alexander Dvornikov to lead the Russian military engaged in the war.
The gaze would have fallen on him primarily from his experience Syria. In fact, Dvornikov is listed as one of the key veterans of the operation that Moscow has been running alongside the Syrian army since September 2015. An operation that is still ongoing but has achieved its main objective: to keep President Bashar Al Assad in power.
BBC: Russia is changing its military command.
According to an unnamed Western official, General Alexander Dvornikov, who has experience in Syria, will lead the army amid the Kremlin’s desire to achieve “some success” before May 9, when the country celebrates victory in World War II . pic.twitter.com/O78htRBBgp

A successful mission, then, which enabled the Russians to preserve the integrity of an allied government in the delicate Mediterranean region. Following the heavy losses it has suffered and the withdrawal from Kyiv, Moscow now wants to build on Syria’s successes in Ukraine.
“Dvornikov has enormous experience from Russian operations in Syria a Russian source told the BBC we expect him to improve in the command phase and overall control of Russian troops in Ukraine.”
And indeed, one of the main concerns of the Russians in this first month and a half of the war concerned the structure of the command judged to be too dispersive and not very functional. The high number of generals killed in the field would not be accidental. Once the Russians set foot in Ukraine, they unduly “stretched” the lines, forcing many generals to shuttle back and forth between front and rear.
This has led, among other things, to a scattering of the chain of command and a communication between the lines and the different departments, it was judged as not good. Therefore, Dvornikov was asked to somehow create “order” within the troops.
His experience in Syria would be a key resource for the Kremlin guarantee. Here the general worked for several years and was one of the architects of the organization of the Russian military machine in the Middle East country. In March 2016, precisely because of his role in Syria, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
A recognition that is mostly justified for his leadership qualities. The main quality that Putin therefore demanded for a change in the pace of operations in Ukraine. Dvornikov’s appointment could be a sign that now is the time for Moscow to see the mission in Ukraine as one War.
A term that was censored in Russia but no doubt mentioned in the Kremlin when it came to mentioning Dvornikov. A general who has led troops to war and fought wars, and who must now raise an army that in Ukraine was almost certain it did not have to fight.
The general’s mission is very clear: to accelerate military plans and achieve significant results in the United States Donbass in view of May 9th. That is, the day of the parade commemorating the military victory in World War II. A parade in which Putin wants to celebrate at least one success.
