  • Rodriguez-Olivares' car broke through two wooden barricades and ended up in the front yard of a family home, which was then allegedly broken into
  • When officers arrived at the scene, they found Rodriguez-Olivares in one of the property's bedrooms and a dead woman in the BMW

A man was arrested after he was found sleeping in a Texas family's home after police said he caused a fatal crash in their front yard that left a woman dead.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Daniel Alexander Rodriguez-Olivares was drunk when he crashed into the family's front yard at a high rate of speed Thursday morning in Houston.

According to police, Rodriguez-Olivares was driving his 2016 BMW at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a culvert where the road split.

The culvert launched the car into the air and sent it crashing into the front yard of homeowner Carlos Suarec's property.

Dramatic surveillance footage showed the moment the car became airborne and flipped three times in the air before coming to a stop.

The BMW crashed through a wooden barricade, then crossed a bayou and then broke through a second wooden barricade.

After the vehicle crashed, Rodriguez-Olivares allegedly exited his vehicle and broke into Suarec's home.

Suarec told Fox 26, “I know someone tried to break into my window.” “I never know the car was here.”

Suarec told the outlet that his family called officers and fled the house, with a family member telling police that the man was lying unconscious inside the house.

“I go in and the police come and they say stay there.” “Maybe five, six police officers go in and try to find him in the house,” Suarec added.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Rodriguez-Olivares in one of the property's bedrooms and a dead woman in the BMW.

One of Suarec's employees also told the outlet that he believed Rodriguez-Olivares was traveling at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

Sergeant Bondurant of the Harris County Sheriff's Office said, “There is absolutely no reason to drive drunk.”

“2023, almost 2024, we have Uber, we have Lyft's. 'Damn, call 911 and we'll pick you up.'

According to officials, the driver is expected to be charged with manslaughter under the influence of alcohol and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Investigators said he showed signs of intoxication and a charge of involuntary manslaughter was expected against him.

The passenger, described as a young woman in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Edgar Fuentes, a neighbor who lives near the property, told Fox 26, “He jumped all the way down through the ditch on the other side.”

“We thought he was going to end up in the middle of the ditch or something, but that's not the case. He walked over and landed on the other side. That was really bad.'
