A three-month-old toddler was fatally shot and a woman was introduced as his mother who was found seriously injured in the Paris region, the Évry prosecutor’s office told AFP on Thursday.
“The prosecutor of the Évry court confirms that a three-month-old infant with a gunshot wound in the chest was delivered to the Fontainebleau hospital (Seine-et-Marne) at 9:40 p.m. by a 54-year-old. “A man of about one year old who pretended to be his father” was then arrested and taken into police custody, the public prosecutor’s office said.
The same source stated that “the little girl died a few minutes after arriving at the hospital.”
The 39-year-old woman, “who was supposed to be the mother of the baby and the partner of the man who left the child behind,” was found that same evening with gunshot wounds near the equestrian center in this small town, the public prosecutor’s office said. She is “seriously injured” and is currently in the hospital.
A police source said the baby was taken to Fontainebleau hospital, but the couple’s home is in Milly-la-Forêt (Essonne).
The Évry public prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation into “murder of a minor under 15 years of age” and “attempted murder by the spouse”. The investigation was entrusted to the research department of the Paris Gendarmerie.
After dropping off his injured child at the hospital, the man returned home and, according to a police source, said he would take care of his injured wife.
He was arrested shortly afterwards in the company of a 67-year-old friend who took him to hospital, the same source adds, indicating that the two men were taken into police custody.
