WASHINGTON, Aug 20 (Portal) – US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo told Turkey’s Deputy Finance Minister Yunus Elitas that Russian companies and individuals are trying to use Turkey to circumvent Western sanctions imposed over Moscow’s war in Ukraine were, said the Treasury Department.

In a phone call, the two also discussed ongoing efforts to implement and enforce sanctions against Russia, the ministry said in a statement.

In its own reading of the call, Turkey’s finance ministry said Elitas had stressed Turkey’s deep economic and political ties with both Russia and Ukraine, but also assured Adeyemo that Ankara would not allow sanctions violations.

“Elitas confirmed that Turkey’s position regarding the current processes and sanctions has not changed, but that it would not allow any institution or person to violate sanctions,” the ministry said.
