A vehicle exploded on a bridge connecting Canada and the United States near Niagara Falls on Wednesday. The FBI says it is investigating the explosion and describes the situation as “very uncertain.”

In a statement posted online, the FBI says its Buffalo office is “currently investigating a vehicle explosion at Rainbow Bridge, a U.S.-Canada border crossing in Niagara Falls.”
“The situation is very uncertain,” the organization added.
It is currently unclear whether the vehicle was attempting to enter the United States or Canada.
Ontario Provincial Police announced that the Rainbow Bridge was closed in both directions, toward Canada and toward the United States. Four border crossings in the Niagara Region are currently closed.
“It is a situation that is evolving by the minute and of course we will make the necessary decisions as soon as we have information,” Federal Public Security Minister Dominic Leblanc said of whether other border crossings could potentially be closed .
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office said he had been briefed on the situation by his national security and intelligence adviser and that he was in contact with American authorities.
“The Minister of Public Safety, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) are fully committed and providing the necessary support,” added its communications director Vanessa Hage-Moussa.
